If you could try a different job for a day, what would you choose?

Astronaut. Then I wouldn’t have to pay more than $50 million for a seat to orbit the earth!

What is your mantra?

I have many, but one I have always held as a leader is: Never ask someone to do something that you wouldn’t be willing to do yourself.

How do you get yourself out of a slump?

Set short-term goals that you can start to tick off as accomplished, so you won’t be overwhelmed by the efforts needed to achieve the long-term goals.

What advice would you give someone starting out in your industry?

Be flexible and be engaged. Banking can be very structured. Those that look to evolve and change will help us get to the next generation of banking.

What has been the biggest shift you’ve noticed in your industry in the last decade?

It is less and less about the branch locations you have (your footprint), and more about the benefits and convenience you can provide your customers through improving technology and access.

What companies or leaders do you admire?

JPMorgan Chase & Co. I think Jamie Dimon is an exceptional leader and visionary. That said, I don’t agree with everything he says. I think this goes for all leaders – we need to challenge the thought processes of our leaders in a constructive way, which will help make us all better.

Who has been most instrumental in your career?

I have been lucky enough to have worked with a few strong leaders and mentors over my career that have helped me understand the exceptional value of a strong leader and the damaging effects of weak ones.

What is your go-to celebration meal, drink or tradition?

I love to cook and love to try new things, including dishes of many different ethnicities, but my go-to is a good Italian pasta with a good Italian red wine.
