Judy Wright, CFO of BTM Global, has had an interesting career path. Starting with her accounting career in China, she moved to the U.S. and started her education over for U.S. credentials. Since then, Judy has taken on accounting leadership roles in a variety of industries with a track record of success. Words that define her success are resilience, tenacity and giving back. In addition to her CFO role, Judy is very active in FEI where she is on the Board and VP of DEI, leading diversity initiatives on a national basis. If you could try a different job for a day, what would you choose?
I would love to be a gardener and be planting flowers or vegetables for a day in the open air.
What is your mantra?
Be your authentic self and keep learning.
How do you get yourself out of a slump?
Be agile and adaptive, persevere, and trust yourself. I look for help and find my allies.
What advice would you give someone starting out in your industry?
Try to learn as much functions of accounting or finance field as you can, and seek mentors from inside and outside organizations. Take the challenges, but also learn to manage the risks.
What has been the biggest shift you’ve noticed in your industry in the last decade?
Less of the younger generations are pursuing an accounting field study, which threatens the future of our profession.
Who has been most instrumental in your career?
I would say my parents. By watching them start their own business and overcome difficulties. Observing them lean on each other through the “storms” were a great lesson for me to persevere and grow in my own career.
What is your go-to celebration meal, drink or tradition?
I love seafood meals, and traditional street food from China is amazing too.
