If you could try a different job for a day, what would you choose?
Play guitar in a band and perform at concerts. The Grateful Dead would be my top choice.
What advice would you give someone starting out in your industry?
Be curious. Find energy to do what you’re doing because you know why it’s so important to your life. Know your purpose.
What is your mantra?
No one does well in a bad neighborhood.
My purpose is to build civic health. I build stronger communities and give energy to others to create a better tomorrow.
How do you get yourself out of a slump?
Check in with friends that nourish me, talk to or look at photos of my daughters, put on some music, and play guitar.
What companies or leaders do you admire?
Patagonia – what they do and who they do it for.
Kaywin Feldman – Executive Director at the Minnesota Institute of Art. She’s an incredibly courageous, innovative leader in a sector not known for embracing change.
What has been the biggest shift you’ve noticed in your industry in the last decade?
The biggest change I’ve seen in society and the leaders we work with is the acknowledgment to think and operate differently than we used to in the past.
Who has been most instrumental in your career?
My business partner, Tom Weise.
What is your go-to celebration meal, drink or tradition?
A really good whiskey – life is too short for bad alcohol.
